When people go to build a house they do two things, generally.
The first thing is to come up with a set of plans to build the house by. The
second thing is to do a cost estimate to know how much money they will have to
spend to finish the house. The Bible even talks about this when it says “For
which of you, intending to build…, sitteth not down first, and counteth the
cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest…after he hath laid the
foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.”
(Luke 14:28-30)
Do you have a plan for your life? Have you counted the cost?
Oh sure, you say, I’ve got my 401k, my IRA, my stocks, my mutual funds and my
plan is going well. I should be able to retire comfortably, and enjoy my old
age.
That’s great. There is nothing wrong with that, but if that’s all
the planning that you’ve done then you’re still way short. Why, you ask? Because
there is life after death in a place called eternity, something that our little
minds can hardly fathom. God said that there is a heaven and that there is a
hell and that we will all bow our knees and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord at
some point in time.
The smart folks – the ones who know how to plan – have already done that by
their own choice and with their free will. They have confessed their sins,
repented of them and asked the Holy Ghost to come live in their hearts.
For those who haven’t made that choice their meeting with God
will come in the split second after death when they are immediately judged and
rewarded with heaven or punished with hell. Some folks say “God is love, He
won’t send anyone to hell” and they’re right.
The folks in hell today sent themselves there by ignoring the
call of God on their lives while they were still living. They chose selfish
pleasures over the benefits of serving God and they’re paying the price for that
today and forever. Remember, “I” is right in the middle of “sin”, and that’s
what separates people from God every time – self.
“It is appointed unto men once to die, but after
this the judgement.”
(Hebrews 9:27)
“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the
living God.”
(Hebrews 10:31)
What are your plans about serving God? What will the ultimate
cost be if you follow your current plan?
