What’s Podcasting?

Podcasting lets you listen to audio (or watch video) files whenever you choose.  You need podcasting software installed on your computer to listen to podcasts.  There are a number of free programs available to play podcasts.  You’ll find our favorites listed below.  Typically, when you subscribe to a podcast, your podcasting software will automatically download the latest podcasts as soon as they become available.  You can then listen to your podcasts on your computer or upload them (often automatically) to portable players such as an iPod.

How to Subscribe to a Podcast

The procedure varies a little depending upon your podcast software.  In general, you simply need to tell your podcast software the location of the “feed,” which you can type (or copy and paste) into the software.  CSHC's main feed is here:

  1. Click and drag the mouse pointer across the box containing the link to the podcast feed to select the text.

  2. Copy the link. (Windows: Right-click and select “Copy Shortcut”) (Mac: Press Command-C or choose Copy from the Edit menu)

  3. Paste the text into the subscription field of your podcasting software (see below).
